Evolution and the Cabala

The theory that the human being evolved out of animals is directly influenced by our perspective of the universe—a big bang that will eventually peter out and go back to being nothing. These theories have been produced by observable facts even as the same scientific community admits that physicality only makes up for four percentage points of reality.

The Cabala is an intricate evaluation of creation, explaining how the illumination from the Creator infuses into creation. According to the Cabala the earth and the human being are pinnacle points in the plan of creation. The human is intrinsically different from the animal in that the human being has the capacity to reason and to articulate these reasoned thoughts into speech. Animals make noises reflecting their emotional state, but never articulate words.

Even more special about the human being is our form which is the replication of the YHVH, the essential life energy of all creation. Through the YHVH God speaks creation into being and through the human being we speak back to God. It is why the universe is so big because compared to the Creator it is all but a drop of water in an infinite sea; between these extremities of Creator and human being is the great expanse of creation.

In the Cabala this dichotomy is explained through the apparatus of Keter/Crown; the crown which is the essential form of life surrounds like a crown surrounds the skull. There are two aspects of the cabalistic crown: Will and Pleasure. The essence of the essence is pleasure which is feeding Will; the pleasure derived from fulfilling one’s will is only a reflection of essential Pleasure which can not by definition be comprehended. Pleasure is the hidden aspect of Will, but Pleasure has his own consort.

Since the definition of essence is not to be seen, Pleasure found a garment to veil her nakedness called Chochma/Power of What—the source of rational thought. It is this power of Chochma—the power to question—that is at the very essence of the soul allowing the human being to speak. The imperfections of the human being does not allow the high light of the soul into the body—only for those living an exemplary life can the body be a vehicle for the light.

Evolution is about fixing our being which in turn will fix the world to become a vessel for the light—asking questions is certainly the key to this endeavor. Evolution is not about space travel or other technological advances; evolution is about bringing the new light through humility. Evolution is so much more than physical and no, we did not come out of the ape or any other animal.

The beautiful human being is the jewel of creation and our evolution is one of becoming even more luminous and precious to the Creator who created us. It is as simple as that.
